Summer-green shrubs or trees, without thorns, with spiraling, whole leaves, flowers usually one by one, pink or white at the ends of shoots, fruits are apple-shaped with many seeds, fragrant. Planted in normal loamy soils, sun-loving.

Mainly for decorative purposes, in small groups. Decorative during flowering and fruiting time.
