Summer-green shrubs with a shallow, but broadly branched root system. Relatively shade-tolerant, but the fruit only forms in the sun. Soil demanding - grows well in rich, loose, moist soils. High ground water is not tolerated, but if it is flowing, it can grow in fairly humid places. Foliage green, yellow in autumn, rounded. Grows relatively slowly. Fruits - nuts.
